Karl,

You don't have to use lighter fluid at all for your barbecue.  I use an
electrical "coil" to light charcoal.  You can buy these at most hardware
stores or other stores that sell appliances.  For barbecuing, they are the
best invention.  You simply place the charcoal around the coil, wait 10-15
min., and your coals are red hot!  No more lighter fluid.  No more chemicals.
 No more hassles with trying to get the coals to light.
