You can't convince anyone who has put up a wall of denial, so don't waste
your energy trying. When you talk to friends like this, you can just
acknowledge that this is the choice they are making instead of being
sympathetic to their complaints or trying to educate them. When they get
really curious, they'll ask you. But sometimes this never comes. My father
at age 80 has many chronic illnesses but still says "I'm in great health!"
