I am fairly new to this group but certainly familiar with every diet program
ever known...have struggled for 40+ years with weight problems and extreme
exhaustion. For many years I just accepted I had probably had a psychiatric
disorder and that my complaints were somatic. However, working with the Zone,
and then refining it to the Paleo Diet has been such a godsend. My sleep is no
longer disturbed, I don't break out in hives daily, I am psychologically
balanced (I've been a psychotherapist in private practice for years, so I know
from whence I speak). I learned a long time back I was allergic to grains
(wheat makes me literally psychotic - like a cerebral allergy!!!), but I had
been a vegetarian for years and was unwilling to look at how soy products sent
my pulse racing. I have so deeply wanted to be vegetarian...but I guess I am
accepting today that is not to be. I am trying to purchase meat from free
range, cruelty free places. I am hopeful, once my poor 51 year old body has
healed from all of the dietary chaos its been through, that I can try to eat
mostly nuts and some fruits and vegetables, but I can't imagine getting enough
protein from nuts, and I doubt I'll be able to tolerate the starch in the nuts
(considering the amount I would have to eat). But I'm hopeful.

Anyhow...I just wanted to say how helpful it has been for me to read all of
your posts, and the things you are all working through. By the way on the
Paleo diet my pulse runs about 64 beats a minute. Whenever non-paleo foods
are added, it races to 100. If I eat corn it goes to 165, which is higher
than I can get it when doing aerobic exercise! So I think, for some of us
anyhow, there is definite truth to the fact that some bodies cannot tolerate
grains etc. Anyhow...thanks for all of your posts. Elle
