As a general thing, fats enhance the flavor of foods.  It has
something to do with the polarity of the molecules, but I don't
remember the details.  This is one reason why very low-fat diets
are so maddening: the food just doesn't taste right.  I'm
guessing that the high fat content of the pemmican is what makes
it so attractive to your son.
