The Continuum Concept, Jean Liedloff

The kids probably can't "help" with your job but they can be around and
watch and fiddle with the paper clips or something, and they can help with
all household taks such as cooking, cleaning, laundry, animal care,
carpentry, gardening, checkbook balancing, etc etc Kids crave to learn
what the "big people" do. So you start out with them holding the dustpan
as toddlers and work your way up. Find a way to include them.
