PBS has recently been running a series on addiction by Bill Moyers, which
seems to have prompted more talk about the subject. I saw one piece--I
can't remember the show, where addicts were talking about how just seeing
film clips of people using drugs was enough to make them want to use. The
addicts were given PET scans and what the researchers found is that while
the addicts (recovering or not)were being shown or otherwise reminded of
their drug of choice, those parts of the brain that become activated by the
substance were being stimulated simply by an visual reminder. Which makes
me wonder if those of us who are carb sensitive/addicted experience the
same thing.

I know that just a few days ago I was reading through the Cadis archives
and came upon a thread where people took up the subject of Little Debbie
cakes. I rarely ate this sort of thing before switching to Paleo, they were
simply too sweet for me, but reading the descriptions definetly set
something off which made me want that intense sugar load. I did not follow
the promptings, thankfully. But it does give one food for thought(G)!
