Tuned into a Japanese TV show that was featuring foods/culture of the
American cowboy, Japanese style. They dug a pit and lined it with salt.
After placing the beef roast on the salt, they covered the meat with
salt, then soil. A coal fire was then lit over the hole. I have no idea
how long they left it there...but when they showed the finished product,
they called it beef jerky (in English!).
Has anyone heard of this type of jerky preparation? Ray?
