Tougher than the surrounded masonry?
I'm all out for another road trip to dig clay.
What color of clay do you have in Maine?
I'm used to NY blue clay (gray color), which went along with culvert crawling
days. Used to mine clay out of the bed of the local crik and make sun-dried
turtle shaped bowls out of it. The clay was also effective to chink stone
dams, though it never had an opportunity to harden. Experiments with clay &
sand along these lines, but never thought to add lime.
