Hi Janis,

Sounds like you had quite an experience. I have juice fasted several
dozen times. Usually I do it from one to three days, but have done it
for up to fourteen. I don't juice fast for more than about three days
at a time because I feel I need to have protein and fats soon after
that. When I juice fast for longer it is usually because I am quite ill
and don't want much to eat or drink anyway, and it's a great way to help
your immune system. When I juice fast I usually don't have any juice
unless I am hungry or thirsty. It has in the past been a sure cure for
any cold, flu or other upper respiratory infection or fever type
ailment for me. I haven't juice fasted for more than a few days in a
long time, but I used to when I was more prone to colds.

I believe the energy boost you felt is very common, or at least it is
for me. Then the feeling of low energy, IMO means your body was ready
for you to break the juice fasting and have other foods - probably
something with raw fats and something with proteins. When I feel this
way I also will consume flax oil and raw fish. Then I really get
charged up.

Juicing fasting is a good detox aid. However, IMO most people don't
need to do it for days at a time unless they are acutely ill. You are
correct that it is high carbs, and this diet has too little fats and
proteins for long term use for most people.

I recently had a similar skin problem similar to what you describe -
which I haven't had since I was a little kid. It could be a reaction to
chlorine because I was swimming a lot recently, and I always react to
chlorine, so we switched to a non-chlorine sanitizer. It also flared
with high stress at work which won't be resolved for about another
month. But then when the juice fasting failed to clear it up I realized
I was craving fats. So I followed my intinct. Now for four days I have
had about ( get this !! I really am not crazy...) a quarter cup of raw
cold pressed flax oil with salt and sea vegetables and I notice a
dramatic improvement in my skin after weeks of nothing helping. So I
have to think that certain types of fats are also very cleansing. I am
beginning to think that juice fasting followed by a couple of days on
sea vegetables with raw cold pressed oils and raw fish is what I'll try
next.

I would not recommend juice fasting longer, but I would recommend juice
fasting more frequently for short interevals. When I have allergy flare
ups I will juice fast from evening until noon the next day and it nearly
always clears it up. Then I'll have fish and sea vegetables or whatever
else I'm interested in for a mid day meal. This is not juice fasting as
most people would think of it but then I get detox symptoms within a few
hours. Hope that helps.

regards

roberta
