I think it's going reasonably well. I'll be filing my nominating
petitions soon. The one thing that is really lagging is fundraising. I
have held three fundraising events and only raised a total of about
$5,000. Naturally, asking people for money is not my strong suit.

In case anyone reading this is moved to contribute, the committee is
Kestenbaum for State Representative, and the address is P.O. Box 2563, Ann
Arbor MI 48106. The legal limit for contributions from individuals is
$500 (per candidate per election). For contributions of $100 or more,
please provide occupation and business address. Corporate checks cannot
be accepted. However, individual donors need not be from Michigan.

In case anyone has friends or relatives in the area, the 52nd District
includes about half of Ann Arbor (the west side, the east side, the north
side, but not downtown or central campus), as well as the nearby
communities of Barton Hills, Whitmore Lake (south of 8 Mile Road), Dexter
and Chelsea. All told, it has about 80,000 people.

I am one of four candidates in the Democratic primary -- I'm the only one
with any experience in elected office (as county commissioner). There are
also two candidates in the Republican primary. The incumbent, Mary
Schroer (D), is ineligible to run again because of the new term limit law.

Ann Arbor has elected only Democrats to the state legislature since the
early 1970s. On the other hand, it has also been a long time since it
elected any *men* to the legislature. I have support from some leading
feminists, but still, my biggest political liability is my gender.

Whoever can get 2500 votes will win the Democratic primary.
