Ergot poisoning is brought on by the storage of rye in damp conditions. In
Europe in the middle ages sufferers often jumped from rooftops in the
mistaken belief that they could fly - a clear connection with the
experimentation with LSD in the early 60s. Ergotamine is chemically close
to Lysergic Acid I'm told. The medieval condition was referred to as St
Anthony's fire.
