Moira,

Uncured bacon is tough to find.  We go to a market that specializes in
organic foods.  (It's called Bread & Circus and I think it's very similar
to Whole Foods.)  Even there, sometimes the only uncured bacon you can get
has sugar added.  This I don't buy.  But when they have it uncured with no
sugar, I've found that it tastes far better than standard bacon.  Ask the
management of the store to get uncured unsweetened bacon.  I'd imagine that
they'd be more accommodating than the average supermarket.

Ham, I've never found without sugar, so I don't eat it anymore.

I'm not sure what you mean by "what kinds of meats".  Do you mean which
cuts?  As far as hamburger is concerned, you're better off not getting it
too lean; it'll be dry and tasteless.  Organ meats?  I must be honest and
admit that I haven't tried any yet.

Following is my opinion.  If your son is thin, good for him.  As someone
who grew up fat and was scarred by the experience, I respectfully question
your motivation for wanting to "fatten him up".  Feed him whole, natural
foods (avoid refined foods) and let his weight take care of itself.  Unless
he is medically in danger of being too thin for some reason, I really feel
that this should be left alone.  Again, this is my personal, biased
opinion.

Where do you get uncured, no sugar bacon?

I looked at Safeway and everything is cured with sugar(all the bacon). And
I
do not know of a butcher around here, will have to search the yellow pages.

I checked at Whole Foods and it comes without nitrites but with sugar.

Also, the ham comes loaded with sugar/honey.

When I do find a real butcher, what kind of meats do I ask for? I was
thinking of asking for ground meat with lots of fat in it, and or organ
meats.

Also, my son is skinny as a rail, what can I do to fatten him up?
