In response to Jim Lyle's post "Diagnosis and the GF Diet," I agree you
should get an "official diagnois" before going on a gluten free diet. My son
was diagnosed with Celiac last summer after an abnormal blood test. The Dr.
didn't feel a biopsy was neccessary at that time. After 7 months on the
gluten free diet, we saw a pediatric gastro who strongly suggested we needed
the biopsy to be a 100% sure he was Celiac. We now have been on a '"gluten
challenge" for almost 3 months with no classical symptoms. However, we have
become very anxious about the results since it has taken a lot longer than we
expected for him to become symptomatic. It was reassuring to read Dr. Murray's
excerpt regarding the gluten challenge. Thank you for sharing that info it
was very helpful to a mom who hopes she is doing the right thing for her son.
