Dear Kiny (and others that have asked similar questions from time to time)
There are indeed other types of reaction to wheat besides celiac
reactions. I have a condition called eosinophilic gastroenteritis
that gives me the same distressing symptoms. But my reaction is
usually a lot faster than yours was; I get nausea in less than an
hour, usually, and within 1-3 hours (depending apparently on how much
I ate), the cramps and runs start until my gut is pretty well emptied.
Other types of allergic conditions could also be responsible for a
similar pattern.
Your reaction could be an allergic reaction, or it could still be a
celiac reaction, in spite of the negative blood work. A number of
people on the list have experience with false negative tests, from
what I've been reading. (For all I know, I may have been celiac too,
as my dr did not bother to do any tests for it once he found a
diagnosis (confirmed by blood work and by several biopsies from the
eosophagus clear to the colon) that accounts for my problems. I sure
don't have the stamina to go through another gluten challenge; I've
been gluten-free as if I were celiac for 6 weeks now, and I've been
feeling better than I have ever been used to feeling in my life. )
Maybe one of the doctors who watch this list have some helpful
suggestions for you. There are other tests for celiac disease; but
even a biopsy may not tell the story, I gather. The damage is often
patchy, and a sample from a healthy spot will be negative.
Good luck and good health!
