Hello,
I am 65 years of age, and over the years, I have had a fair amount of
dental fillings and crowns, kept up at some cost. Now diagnosed as a
Celiac, I wonder if my teeth are worth keeping since I am finding that
they crumble very easily. I have read that malabsorbtion of proteins in
Coeliacs aggravates cavities.
I asked my dentist today about partial dentures, or even a clearance and
full dentures since to keep my own teeth may cost a fortune and much
painful treatment over many years.
However, the dentist has left me troubled by suggesting that I should
keep my own teeth since some are still in good condition. He suggested
root canal work and crowns. However, I simply do not know whether he
says this as it is in his best interest, as this work will cost hundreds
of pounds. Perhaps I`m simply being cynical!
I`d be very grateful to know whether any other Celiacs have faced this
problem, and can offer me some advice. I personally feel that both
dentists and doctors do not seem to understand the effect this disease
has on patients.
Thanks very much for reading this. I look forward to - hopefully! -
receiving some answers.
