Hello Abigail and fellow list-members;

The scene from "French Kiss" to which you refer was describing how the
character played by Kevin Klein got his wine tasting education. He used the
items in the little jars as sample smells. The items in the little jars
(which included spices and flowers) were never added to the wine.

In a good wine you might think you are tasting spices, flowers, berries,
even tobacco, limestone and toast; they are not added to the wine, just
something that 'happens' in a good wine.

The same can't be said for cyser, melomels, and some homemade wines which
can have a wide variety of things added.

No commercial vintner of any repute adds anything other than sulphites and
yeast to the wine. ie. - avoid jug wines, even 'house' wines.
