Hello all,
I was at the gym this morning and saw a very disturbing story on CNN
Headlines News. I don't get cable, so when I'm at the gym I sometimes
watch what's on. Anyways, turns out the "kitchen " toys are the rage
this Christmas. These plastic kitchens include stoves, burners, fridges,
etc. and the models range from $50-$200. Now the story gets bad. Fast
food companies are making plastic food to go along with these
"kitchens", such as doughnuts from Dunkin' Donuts, pizza from Pizza Hut,
and other stuff. The only real food they showed was a plastic fruit basket.
This is preparing kids so that when they get older, they will incorporate
these fast food chains into their lives. Other companies such as Betty
Crocker are marketing appliances that actually make some sort of food.
The whole news story was scary. These companies are forcing ideas down
the throats of these children. Any opinions out there? What can/should
be done?

I was also thinking about how eating processed/cooked food has so many other
destructive factors to consider. Here are some consequences...
1.) The packaging is a waste of paper.
2.) Companies that package use/waste many resources.
3.) People who eat lots of junk might be tired the following day thus
decreasing productivity (what a manger might think)
4.) Eating more processed food increases the need for toilet paper
5.) Cooking food takes energy, so higher gas and/or electric bills.
6.) Buying "Nabisco" is making some CEO really rich.
7.) More processed food makes for more household garbage.
and so on. Anyone care to add to the list?

Happy Sunday,
Meredith
