The point of the religious style in "NeanderThin: is thus:

All religion springs from neoteny (the biological process of domestication).  Neoteny
is technically a common form of mutation in which juvinile traits are retained into adulthood.
Many forms of symbiosis in nature involve the neotinization of both species involved, forming a
mutual dependency.  The first religions were totemic and began when man first domesticated the
wolf, which through neoteny became the dog, during the mesolithic era.  These religions practiced
by neotinized Neanderthals (CroMagnons), set forth the rules to optimize this relationship and
the resulting lifestyle.  Hunter-gathers followed these types of religions until recent history.

After the "fall from grace" (the neolithic revolution) agricultural religions appeared to assure
that people would do what it takes to produce crops every year.  To do this involves great
personal sacrafice, beyond what a person would do left to his own devices.  As famine became very
common, rules also had to be enforced to ration and restrict food.  Geographic distribution of
all of the worlds great religions follow crop patterns and agricultural methods.
