It's funny how timing can be so coincidental....or not?
I had just returned from our homeopathic physician with my 2 year old
severely milk allergic son. He is, finally, on the right track after a
year and a half of being considered a failure to thrive child, with many
providers' fingers pointing at ME....telling me if I just fed him, he
would grow. But dairy allergies had so ravaged our little one's
digestive system from all the hidden sources of dairy that we have over
the last six months (lately, with some help to all of you) discovered
and eliminated, that he suffered from malnutrition, no matter how much
food he ate.

Anyway, he still has some minor symptoms, such as a dry red rash in a
circular pattern on his face. Pediatricians say "dry skin from winter",
but I was uneasy with this explanation. Our wonderful and insightful
homeopath suggested flax oil, and I arrived home to read the same advice
on my email!! He concurs with the previous explanation about the
essential fatty acids being absent or unabsorbable (is this a word?),
with dry, uncomfortable skin as one possible result. He worried that my
son would reject it due to the taste, but I put it in his soy milk and
he never seemed to notice. Already, after only a few DAYS, not months,
we have begun to see an improvement, and he has stopped scratching (and
making it worse by doing so).

BTW, we have found homeopathy, under the guidance of a good homeopathic
physician, to be a great help in managing the symptoms of allergic
episodes when my child has had accidental exposure to milk. Both of our
homeopathic providers require patients to maintain a primary care
provider, as well, even though both were MDs themselves, as they are
practicing homeopathy exclusively.

Regarding delayed reactions to the allergen...One of the most puzzling
things about my son's situation was that the severe vomiting, diarrhea
and painful gas would sometimes not appear until a day or so AFTER the
suspected milk exposure!! And then, last for a week or more, causing
malabsorption and weight loss. He is not anaphylactic; his symptoms are
primarily digestive, behavioral, skin, general well being. The
gastroenterologist was puzzled by this delay, (the family practice
physicians called it a flu bug....on and off for 10 MONTHS??!!), but it
was the homeopath who explained that allergies often do produce delayed
reactions and that is what makes them tricky to accurately diagnose, and
NO, we were not crazy NOR depriving our child of food. Oh the stories
we could all tell about our journeys through the health care delivery
system! I am grateful to have this forum and source of helpful
information and support. God bless you all!!--Dale Robin
