You should get the movie manufacturing consent. It will bring you up to
speed very fast. It's very well done, and sometimes a visual aid is good in
presenting humor, angst and what not. My personal experience is when my mom
saw manufacturing consent on PBS. She is a full on Jehovah witness, so I had
her see the movie and yes she likes chomsky. I also got the movie into my
skills center when I was in high school here in Seattle. It is there till
this day, and offered to new students to view. The sad thing is I called to
see how things were going with a favorite instructor of mine. She informed
me that most kids attending the school are just there to smoke pot, and goof
off all day. Because they are so into goofing off. Most of chomskys language
and concepts are a bit to much for most students. Thus, nothing is
accomplished just frustration and intimidation from lack of education. In
your case I imagine you should be fine. However if anyone has kids on this
list. Pay attention! This system we always talk about destroying exists. Our
children live in it. We need to educate.... -JamesD

Mona, I would start with "Manufacturing Consent," CO-written with Edward
Herman. It is a good primer on Chomsky's views of the media, and why he
gets
so little exposure in the US media.

Another good choice, (perhaps even better), would be "The Chomsky Reader,"
which has excerpts from many of his books, along with an interview which
reveals both his philosophy and how he came to it.

Happy Reading.

Cheers, Dave Earp.
