Thanks to everyone who responded to my Easter egg dilemma. I appreciate your
help. I will try to summarize the responses:
1.) As far as dying the eggs, many people use rice vinegar with good results.
Some say the egg shells are porous, and others said it is not. Some use cider
vinegar and it does not affect the color of the dye. One suggested lemon
juice, due to its acidity.
2.) 11 people told me that Honey Baked Hams are not gluten-free. 3 people
said the hams are gluten-free, but the glaze is not. They also said if you
call ahead and order, you can request it to be made without the glaze,
therefore, it will be gluten-free.(I think the glaze is the best part). One
person thought it was gluten-free. Another said she eats it all the time
without any problems. This helps, but the problem is that I have a large gift
certificate from Honey Baked Ham and would have loved to use it.
3.) I received one response for an Easter bread recipe which would be gluten-
free. The response was to made a gf recipe, then bake it in a tube pan,
insert the easter eggs, and then dust with powdered sugar. It seems like the
gf bread dough would be too soft to try to braid or shape free-hand in any
way. I think I'll give it a try in the tube pan.
Once again, thanks for all your help. It's reassuring to know others are in
the same dilemmas.
Happy Spring,
Debbie
