Hi everybody. I just caught up on about two weeks worth of postings.
Thought I'd give you an update. We took our daughter off of almost all milk
products 6 weeks ago, and guess what? She's better!!! Her allergy shiners
(purplish rings under her eyes) are gone, her sinuses are more clear, her
stomach cramps are gone, and on and on. We still use some cheese and let
her eat yogurt because getting enough protein is a big issue (she is on
medication which suppresses her appetite). She's still having to use
Rhinocort (steroid nose spray) but we're in the full swing of pollen season
here in NC. So far, no wheezing or asthmatic type reactions to the pollen
(knock on wood).
Just a few comments on recent threads:
We cannot get used to the taste of any of the soy or rice beverages we've
tried so far. Someone mentioned a tofu beverage I will look for next time
I'm in the health food store (But that's going to be akin to the soy
products isn't it?). My kids won't even use chocolate rice dream on
sweetened cereal they don't otherwise get so you know they must not like it! :)
I did see a local dairy is now putting out milk from cows that have not been
given bovine growth factors or antibiotics, but from what I've read here,
although these chemicals are not good for children, they are not what's
causing the allergic reactions, right?
Any other ideas as to what the children would like on cereal? Someone
suggested orange juice on corn flakes but I haven't worked up the nerve to
serve that yet!
I tried chocolate Rice Dream in chocolate pudding... it was not appetizing.
So, instead of making pudding I've been making baked things... we're all
gaining weight!
Can anyone recommend any of the non-dairy cheeses? Gosh, I hate to just
pick one and try it; they are so damn expensive! I could buy prime filet
mignon for the same price!
Anyway, I'm glad you all are here. I'm still wading through the Doris Rapp
book and trying to find other culprits.
G'nite,
Jeny
