Hi everyone,

This post was very interesting to me ,not because I have any defined
psychiatric disturbances associated with my celiac disease, but
because I am very interested in Darwinian medicine. This is the idea
that many of todays "diseases" result from the fact that our bodies
evolved for a particular set of environmental conditions (ie the
hunter gatherer lifestyle of the distant past). For anyone that is
interested I would strongly recommend a book, "Why we get sick" by
Williams and Nesse. Its a beautifully written, fascinating book that
examines many aspects of disease in the modern world, both "physical"
and "mental". While it doesnt specifically mention celiac disease,
there is a large section on food allergies and intolerences and
celiac disease obviously fits right in with the other arguments.

Please feel free to email me personally of you would like any more
information(I dont have the book right here with me so dont know the
publisher etc off the top of my head!)

Cheers

Amanda
