Larry,
Yup...you can eat 'em raw if sprouted thoroughly...or if cooked.  If you
don't do either of those things, they are toxic, but have had them fresh,
before drying out...and they're edible then.

Apparently, or so it's alleged in the material I've read over the years, the
toxic anti-digestant constituent develops to protect the seed:
after it dries out.
