Thomas,
Dr. Paavo Airola in "Are You Confused" states that:
1) Raw wheat germ is fresh, wholesome and edible only about 4 days
- maximum a week - after it is made.
2) Even storing wheat germ at low temperatures does not prevent it from
oxidation and rancidity, but only slows it down.
3) Most vegetable oils turn rancid in a matter of weeks, especially if
they are kept in transparent glass containers at room temperature.
4) Flaxseed oil is known to become rancid just a few hours after it is
pressed.
5) Most seeds and nuts with a high oil content turn rancid in less than
a year. Hulled sesame seeds, which contain over 50% fat, keep fresh
less than 6 months.
I
also, Thomas, enjoy oily foods such as avocadoes, soaked nuts, and
sprouted sunflower seeds. I feel best if I am the one who is extracting
the oils from foods; that is, I know I don't have to deal with the
rancidity factor in the oils I intake in my diet.
