There was a long article in our local paper on the effects of a
near-starvation diet among the poor in CUBA. Apparently, these people
are showing the same ill effects, from a poor diet, that Celiacs get
from ingesting gluten and suffering maladsorption. Peripheral neuropathy
and eye conditions were mentioned. Lack of B12 is apparently considered
the main culprit.

I guess Celiac Disease causes a form of starvation to some human
bodies. By the way, during a gluten attack, do any of the Listreaders
experience diplopia(double-vision)?

Historically, does anyone know when the first wheat fields were
established in "the New World'-America? I think the Spanish settlers in
the WEST relied more on corn in the early days. What grains did the
Pilgrims use for bread-making?AMS
