You may not want to drink as much of it because of its effect on reducing
calcium storage in bone.  The phosphoric acid in carbonated beverages, if
consumed in large quantities has this effect.  Young women, who seem to
be major consumers of soft drinks around here, thus miss the opportunity
to store calcium during an important period in their life (ages 18-24)
are at risk for osteoporosis later on.

I wonder if osteoporosis is more common in people with absorption
deficiencies (celiacs)?
