Hi Harry,
I would recommend going back to the drawing board. Use Google to find out which applications are compatible with the MPEG file type. I found this link
https://www.howtogeek.com/367560/what-is-an-mpeg-file-and-how-do-i-open-one/#content
to a page which describes the file type. I don't think renaming the file will do anything because of the way the data in the original file is compressed. I'm not sure why you insist on using Winamp. I think all of the media players out there have some kind of keyboard control to let you adjust playback. I would also recommend updating to the latest version of JAWS. If you do that, you will get better tech support from Freedom Scientific. Ask them what media players they recommend and how to use them with the file. I hope this helps.
Dan

Subject: [VICUG-L] I can't open a file
Hi all,
Using windows 11, jaws 2020.
I went to the training webinar page for freedom scientific.
I downloaded the file, about using jaws with windows 11, and there is so much new, I am major, messed up!!!!
So I download the thing.
I hit enter, and Winamp won't play it, I get an error.
So, I look at the file extention, it's a .mpeg file.
So, I changed the extension to .mp3, and it still won't play it.
I want to use winamp, it's the program that lets me jump to a certain spot in a file.
And it let's me right arrow in 5 second intervals.
So what the heck do I do?
There's so much to learn, I am all messed up with Jaws and windows 11!!!
Harry, very, very, frustrated
