I stood in the grocery store today looking at granola bars and holding a
box of oatmeal and raisin bars. If oats are indeed okay to consume
"moderately," I could eat these. What an amazing feeling. I bought them
but haven't consumed yet (and yes, I did check the ingredients
carefully). I haven't eaten oats for eight years.

Excuse my skepticism, but I doubt that "checking with my doctor" on this
will yield fruitful advice. I can't imagine that my doctor knows
anything more about the NEJM study at this point than I do (having read
it) although--IF my doctor has read it--she could perhaps offer her
interpretation. I don't mean to discourage resort to the medical
profession, but as many messages on this list have indicated a lot of
doctors aren't particularly well-informed about celiac.
