My youngest brother was diagnosed in 1966 as a celiac, he almost died. This
was in England. The doctors could not agree on his problem and it was 1969
before everybody agreed.

In 1976 I moved to Canada, the rest of family is still England. In 1984 my
weight started dropping, and I had all the classic symptons of celiac. I
was 30. In 1985, I saw my family doctor who started me on the treadmill of
specialists. My diagnosis over the next 18 mths, ranged from Crohn's
disease, through bowl and stomache cancer and so on. Throughout this period
I continued to request a test for celiac, but kept being told that it
couldn't be, as it was a very problem. Eventually, in 1986, I was down to
105lbs and I was in severe distress. At this time I was sent to see a DR.
TURNBULL in Halifax Nova Scotia, and I have to say, he saved my life. He
diagnosed in one test what all the others hadn't been able to for 18 mths.

Anyway, the upshot is, don't be put off by Dr.s that say it is too rare a
problem. I have seen it appear in 2 generations of my family, all ages,
both sexes.

Good Luck to you and your daughter Kathy. Don't give up, it does eventually
get easier to handle. You will adjust.
