Everyone has had different experiences getting a diagnosis and going
through the biopsy. I wasn't put out for the biopsy but was given a
sedating drug, I believe of the benzodiazepene class, that is supposed to
induce amnesia for the event-plus a dental anesthetic to reduce the gag
reflex. my Dr was great and it was all over in minutes and he kept
telling me how well I was doing. I don't think that the amnesia drug
helped much because I remember all of it, but believe me, a few moments
of a funny feeling in your tummy (and that is all I had) is worth the
future years that I won't have to feel tired and miserable from eating
gluten. Don't be afraid of the biopsy. I was initially terrified and it
turned out to be just a little discomfort and well worth the confirmation.
What made it ok were my Dr's constant reassurances that I was doing
really well, a sense of humour about the whole thing, and best of all I
told him I wasn't going to watch while he did it.:) If anyone needs
pre-biopsy reassurance you can write me privately. I got through it fine
and I was procrastinating for months because I was afraid I wouldn't make
it through. Please don't put it off if there is a medical suspicion of CD.
