The other answers you got explain very good about termination
requirements. I just wanted to mention a little about the "self
terminating" feature of the Advansys and other SCSI host adapters.
The card is only self terminating on one end, either internal or
external, and they usually can automatically do so if there are only
devices either internal or external. If you plug something into the
external connector, and something to the internal connector, YOU have
to handle termination on the ends of the chain.
