Do you know if this is the digital mode the new Yaesu fusion repeaters use,
or is that something else entirely?

I know DStar is an Icom product.

Pat,

You are correct.  DMR is another digital communications system.  It uses a
digital data stream over a 12.5KHZ space creating two virtual 6.25KHZ
channels where two conversations can take place independently of one
another.
