Jim:
I'm asking about the codex program and how it works with the second-gen
Victor Reader Stream.
Sorry for the confusion.

Tom, by It, are you asking about the Blaze ET or the I-phone. I hope to
check out a Blaze ET in a couple of weeks if the dealer gets it back from
the Sacramento Society, Jim WA6EKS

If anyone tries this and actually gets it to work, I'd be very interested,
since I use the second-generation VRStream as my main book reader at this
time.
Have an iPhone 6, but haven't yet tried the BARD mobile ap with voice-over.
Will hopefully get to that one of these days.

Here's something from the Top Tech Tidbits newsletter many victor reader
stream users will be interested in.
Codex is a free, donation-ware e-book conversion tool. With Codex, you can
take the books you've legally purchased from sites like Amazon, Smashwords,
and popular eBook stores using Adobe Digital Editions or Barnes & Noble via
NookStudy and convert them to a format of your choice, be it ePub for
reading on the latest devices, plain text to read in Notepad, or any of the
other supported output formats:

Both the Streams work well - I think that the internet options on the Stream
are extremely well thought out and implemented. My kids bought me an iPod
Touch for my birthday and I have both the Kindle and NLS apps.
on it. Both
are easy and work very well. The KNFB reader is like any OCR app. You have
to be steady and patient and you will get decent results.
I have an A P H Bookport Plus which I will be selling soon. Not really
using it and I never got the hang of the Internet feature. And you can
really have too many readers!

Hi,
I have a VR Stream second gen and I love it. It is much louder than my
Nexus 6 phone and easier to use.

You are right, but that assumes you can get use to the touch screens on
these devices, and I never have, just not comfortable. I need keys or
buttons. Some day I'm going to take my IPod out and blow it away with my
judge. Question is should I use a 45 hollow point or 410.

In my case, I'm using an ipad mini first generation. It does everything
the Blaze will do minus the ocr. It has more volume, better sound than my
first generation Stream, plextalk pocket and Booksense standard. Much
better battery life than my specialized devices. It does everything a
Stream will do and a lot more. You can buy a 6th generation ipod touch and
KNFB reader and do everything a Blaze will do and a lot more for half the
price of the Blaze.

The Hims Inc. book players are far better than the Stream.
First
and foremost, the Stream does not get loud enough to be able to be heard
well without using earbuds or external speakers. That was and still is
the main reason I will not go near the Stream unless this has been fixed
recently, and I don't know about it. The one product I have of HumanWare's
started having problems very early after I got it, and HumanWare would not
help me figure out the problem nor take it in to be looked at even though
at the time, there was still plenty of warranty left on it. Hims Inc. has
always been helpful, and my BookCense is still working as well as it did
almost six years ago when I purchased it, and I am planning on purchasing a
Blaze at some point when money allows.

Here are some things to be aware of about the Blaze. internet radio and
downloading podcasts work very much like the bookport plus and plextalk
pocket.
The Stream has a much better implementation of internet radio and
podcasts.
I
feel that the Stream has a better way of organizing it's content.
At this point in time, the Blaze won't play content from Audible.
Learning Ally has no plans at this point in time to support playback of
there content on the Blaze. The Blaze doesn't have NFB Newsline like the
Stream.

Hi list, just wondering if any of you have experience with the Blaze ET
unit that has OCR built in as well as a host of other ways to read stuff?
Thanks, Jim WA6EKS
