It depends on the mount for the dish. Some of them, I don't know if they'd
handle it while others are strong enough to take it for sure. If you can
take the dish off it, that's even better but really a duel bander isn't that
much wind load so you can probably get away with it. I have my ground
mounted HF vertical guyed to an unused satellite dish on my roof and it
holds up alright. For coax, on 2 meters and 70 CM, run the best coax you can
afford but what ever you run, don't run RG-58 or mini 8. You'll lose most of
your power in it. My UHF/VHF is all 9913 or LMR400 and I'd love to be all
LMR400 but it's solid center conductor wouldn't be good on my 2 meter beam
turning it.

Subject: antenna mounting question

Hello List:

I am currently situated in an apartment(one story), and was wondering about
the feasibility of mounting a vertical, dual band antenna(Comet gp-3 model
for example) to a disused, non-rotatable sattelite tv dish which I'm told is
attached to the building's roof. I believe that the antenna is close to 6
feet in length, and roof is 20-25 feet high. Has anyone had some practical
knowledge of doing this, and would it be a worthwhile endeavor for a dual
band transceiver base station?

Not sure of length/type of coax run I would need to where I hope to locate
my "shack". Any suggestions/advice welcome.

Best regards,

David S. Pearson-wa4dsp
