The iPhone audio connector is, I believe, available from digikey comes with
a series of cables with stripped ends. Don't know how they identify purposes
of each.
As I remember it has sleeve, tip and eight rings <YIPES!
Even though I've soldered plenty of connectors, I'd not want to try breaking
out that cable.

or the like.
