Hi Tom!

I've contacted the battery place in Christchurch, so depending on what they
say, I may have something to report soon on that score. I have sent the girl
a picture like she asked for, and told her what it is in more technical
language, so we'll see, hi hi.

I'm sure you're right about the manual. It would only have that info if
there is a service manual.

My excuse for letting it die is I'm a CW op.

73,
Dave

Dave:

I don't think the lythium battery number is in the manual for the HTX202,
since the manual is a basic users manual

If I'm wrong on this, I hope someone else will feel free to correct me.

I probably won't be getting to our local Radio Shack store for a number of
days now, since my XYL and I are now out at our RV, and we have the
Memorial Day week-end coming up.

But, I'll check when I go in there next time, although I'm not sure the
current help will have a clue about what I'm asking for.

HHi Tom!

Thanks for confirming my suspicion.

It would be helpful if you can get me the information to identify the
lithium battery such as a model number. Actually the battery place may even
be aware of it so I will contact them today. They are not quite local to me
as they're in Christchurch, but I have dealt with them previously without
any issue. Haven't used them in a couple years, but they have been known to
replace braille lite batteries in the past. I reckon if they can do that,
they can probably do about anything, hi hi.

Dave

Dave:

The continuous beaping that you experience when turning on the HTX202 or
404 indicates that the lythium battery is indeed dead.

This is my problem, and apparently is also true for others on the list.

As we all know, Radio Shack stores arre in the process of closing, but I'm
going to check at ours to see if, by chance, they happen to have a few of
those lythium batteries lying around.

If they do, I'll grab them up.

Then, of course, the next task will be to figure out how to get them
installed, but first things first, I guess.

Hi Tom!

I turned mine back on for the first time in a few years today, and find that
it beeps quite well by itself. That doesn't seem very life-like, but guess
it's better than nothing at all.

Put the battery on charge, but can't be sure if the charger was the right
one, and don't know if there was even a charging light in evidence, so guess
will try to get it to the local tech sometime to see if he can do some CPR
or something on it, hi hi.

No point in it wasting space on my desk if I only thought it was useful. The
lithium battery probably died, but at least it's acting like it knows it
should try to do something even if it doesn't know what that is.

Dave

John:

I'm like you.

I really hate to part with the HTX202 and 404 that I have, since they do
come in handy for communications events, especially for those who need to
borrow a radio for a period of time.

Of course, my memory is getting foggy on how to program the things any
longer, but I have cheat sheets around here somewhere.

We don't have a batteries plus or anything like that here in my little town,
but this may be something to check into at the next swap I go to.

Of course, Radio Shack is closing down now, so I won't be able to get help
from them any longer.

Will be interested in any suggestions others might have.

Any battery place, or if you have a radio who's a radio tech, any of them
can solder the leads to a lithium battery or put a holder in there so it's
not soldered in anymore just the holder is soldered in and they can put any
common lithium battery in there. Believe me, if anyone on this list has one
needing a battery and doesn't want to go to the trouble, I'll gladly talk to
them about getting it off their hands, I like that radio. I like having a
few older HT's around here for some public service events I do, if I need to
loan one out, if the weather's not too great, what ever. you never know what
radio I'm going to come out with at those events, it always gets comments
when I bring out the old IC2AT, or FT-470. My commercial radios are better
but if I'm in the city I live in better to being out the old one I paid next
to nothing for, or if the weather's not too great. I like to have an NIMH
battery or AA's for events in the cold too, I've had nothing but trouble
with lithium batteries in extreme cold.
