I had sent a reply that went direct to Dave.   I remember that someone 
on the Friday night net was having a ptt problem (maybe WB9R),  so for 
what it's worth, here it is for the list:

Under tools/preferences drop down menu in echolink, I changed ptt to be 
the spacebar and checked the "momentary" check box.   This lets the 
spacebar act like the ptt button on a microphone:  hold it down and you 
are in TX, release it for RX.

There may be other ways to solve Dave's and Harold's problems, but  this 
is my 2 cents.
