Hi All,
The Brightleaf Amateur Radio Club here in Greenville NC, W4AMC, had three
stations set up this year. We were on 40 meters, parttime on CW and parttime
on SSB using an Icom 706 into a Carolina windem; we were on 20 meters,
mostly CW, using our new Kenwood TS-480 into a triband beam; and we were on
15 meters SSB using a Yaesu 897 into the same triband beam through a
20/15/10 meter triplexer. I operated the 20 meter station on Saturday
between 3:00 PM and 10:30 PM. We, like Steve, had to shut down for about two
hrs for T storm activity, plus some time out for dinner. During the time I
was on, I made a total of 60 contacts. Thanks to this list and the material
that I had downloaded regarding the '480' I was able to operate it like I
knew what I was doing. We all had a great time, including the 15-meter
operator who worked Hawaii and Puerto Rico for the first time. I was pleased
with the Kenwood's work, need I say it, perfect! Some of its features took
some getting used to, like the RF gain being controlled with the 5 button.
Bye for now, 73's, Albert, WA7FXB
