It was after 2300 local time last night, Friday, and I was punching up memory frequencies I regularly read the mail on that are generally on 40 and 75 meter phone that times of night; especially on a Friday night.  I punched in memory #43 and instantly, heavy death metal music came roaring through my speakers at 30 over 9.  The complete frequency was block, jammed, and nothing could be heard but the death metal music.  With everything going digital these days, I found that hams mostly pick exact frequencies so 38 43.000  came up as soon as I punched the button for it.  Oh, sure, I've heard music played on sideband hundreds of times but this was unique.  First the death metal style, then the strength of the signal, and the fact that the music was no way distorted as it played into the night.  The rolling wave sound of the QSB made it mesmerizing and the exact frequency matching made it sound as good as any broadcast stations.  First, you need to know that an S9 CW signal on my Icom 7000 is a strong signal.  Even an S9 sideband signal is good if there is no QRM or thunderstorm activity at the moment I am listening.  Last night, the static was 10 over S9 so it was a noisy band.  The second thing you need to know is that a 30 over S9 signal on my radio is a whopper of a sideband signal and few stations ever reach it unless they are local boys.  The third thing you need to know that 38 43 has been taken over by the Patriot Ham Net.  They have their own website available to those interested in what they are doing and there is a private password protected side for bonified Patriot members.  How you get inducted into the group is unknown to me.  It has to do with guns, warfare, often race is considered, how loyal to the constitution one may, or may not, be, and how many F words and GD words you can speak in 10 seconds.  That last one is a joke but if you listen to 38 43, you'll understand what I mean.  Anyhow, at least once a week that I have copied, they have an on air meeting.  Members speak, make transmissions, comments are shared, and new members are solicited.  One night a guy read from a hand book on how to build a Patriot militant group of your own.  These groups are not all alike.  Some Patriot groups are not racial, that is, for whites only.  Others, of course, are very racial.  Some hate Jews and blacks and Asians and Mexicans and some are worse than that.  All such groups are militant to one degree or another.  Some call themselves the Texas Militia or the Colorado Militia.  Others identify themselves with skin heads.  These are ball headed boys, by choice, who are Arian in nature and think Hitler is still their supreme leader.  Some groups are housed in compounds and complexes in western states and live full time in the compound.  They never go anywhere without baring arms on their person; generally in plain sight.  By the way, Randy Wever was not a member of any of these groups.  He also won his lawsuit against the Federal Government but lost his wife to a government paid sharp shooter who was ordered to kill.  Randy Wever's wife just so happened to be in his sights at the time.  Of course, they shot and killed Weaver's 15 year old son as he ran back to the cabin.  Another more loose knit group of such believers are called Free Men. or spoken as a single word, freemen.  They carry guns, as do many law abiding Americans, and Freemen believe in being free.  They don't believe you need to have a driver's license to have the right to drive a car, they don't believe in paying taxes, they will, if pulled over by a cop, pull on to someone's private property and refused to take the cop's ticket he is trying to give them.  Freemen are generally men and women well educated in the laws and in some states, a cop cannot write a ticket on private property nor does the person have to physically take possession of the written ticket.  In some states, they don't even have to present a driver's license to prove they can drive legally.  There is a lot more to Freemen but they are not generally racists but just believe in freedom to all men.  I have a friend who was a Texas Freemen for many years, winning several lawsuits brought against Freemen in his group, but he finally became more conventional because he got tired of fighting the laws and what they really meant.  At any rate, the 38 43 group of guys provides interesting listening and some right down humor but it is R rated and X rated and any other immoral rating you want to call it.  The music jamming is often there but last night was the loudest, and the best reproduced, I have personally ever heard.  I'm convinced short wave could go sideband and play music with all the fine tuned digital short wave receivers on the market today.  The guy who seems to speak for the 38 43 group, don't know his name, but it sounds like his call he is using is KF5THX but that QRN was just too strong for me to tell for sure.  He says he lives in Kentucky.  Many of the other stations I can't copy because they are too weak.  There is a local station from here who shows up and is 30 over 9 with no QSB but I can never get his call exactly right so I can't look him up.  He has to be close to me with that type of a stable signal because Denver stations just 15 miles away fade up and down due to band conditions so if they don't go up and down, they are ground wave to me so that means close.  Anyhow, take a listen late nights and see what you find.  A little goes a long ways, though, haha.
