As far as I understand there is no problem with beets.
They inherit from the wild "Beta vulgaris maritima" wich grows on
european shores. Other wild beets grow in Africa and the middle east.
Edible naked, stone and stick not needed although the latter can be
of good help when digging up :-) No cooking needed.
