The R8 also has integral compromise half wave radials.
With these, a slight being that the ends are "hot"

That's true. The bottom of the Titan consists of four six-foot rods, =
running out from the antenna horizontally, with a wire strung through =
them making a circle most of the way around. There's about a one-foot =
gap taken up by string between the two ends of the wire. The length of =
the wire is changed to tune the center of 40 meters. =20
