I am told that Windows 10 has a lot of features of XP Pro and, from our
stand point, a lot more easy to interface than its predecessor.

BTW:  how do you put the classic shell onto 8.1?

Windows 8, and 8.1 were brought out in part to restore some of the 
functionality that Windows 7 took away.

My IT team at work likes 7 better than 8, but for the most part, I 
prefer 8.1 so long as I have Classic Shell running with it.

The computer in one of my recording booths at work is running 7. That 
is okay for no more than I do with that computer, which is mostly run 
Studio Recorder with Jaws 16.

One thing that 8.1 does much more smoothly than 7 is copy and replace a 
bunch of files at once.

With 7, I have to fish around for the right checkbox each time I want 
to copy and replace a stack of audio files from that production booth 
to the broadcast automation.

With 8.1, I simply tell it to replace all files, pretty much as with XP.

In both 7 and 8, some of the choices such as those in the replace files 
option, are chosen with the left and right arrows, rather than with the 
up and down arrows like I was doing in XP. There may be a setting to 
change that behavior in 7, but I have not found it.

Classic Shell fixes it in 8.

As for Windows10, I am perfectly content to let anyone else on this 
list who wishes, be the first to use it.

Here is one more big heads up for anyone who jumps from XP to 8.1. Be 
ready to update a bunch of your software, and to be dragged kicking, 
screaming, and talking very ugly into Microsoft Office 2013.
