I sent the following to Ron off list, but it may be of interest to
Harvey and others.
There is a free utility called Classic Shell.
While it does not return Windows8 to the exact logical layout of XP, it
does make it manageable.
In my opinion, without this utility added, Windows8 or 8.1 is
completely worthless. I have been known to call it 8 point awful.
The download location for the program should be one of the first hits
in a Google search for "classic shell."
The default settings in the install should fix most of his issues. If
not, you can go into the program after the install in order to change settings.
The Classic Shell install on my home machine was done remotely by
Richard Bell when he was still at Serotek, in April of 2014. I had
called their tech support because I was having a problem getting System
Access going on a new machine with Windows 8.1.
However, I was present, and had Jaws running, when my IT person at work
installed it on the computer at my desk about 3 months ago. While he
was doing it all with the mouse, the install appeared to talk well
enough that I could have done it myself.
