Rebooting the modem (and the router) usually will achieve the same thing.
Sometimes, however, Charter will still connect you to the same IP unless you
change the MAC address of the router. It seems to be a problem with the
Charter router having routing issues. By forcing a switch to a new Charter
assigned router, the problems seem to clear up (for a while at least).

Does your method accomplish the same thing as rebooting the modem? I did
some reworking of my computer area and now have all my plugs and power
blocks switched so if I leave for more than an hour or go to bed I can turn
everything off with the flick of a couple of switches. It does allow
rebooting of the modem and router constantly so Charter can't claim that as
a fix. It also saves me about $10 a month on my PG&E bill!
