Rick and all thanks for suggestions. I gave it one more try and discovered
that in my initial attempts to cleanup the inside of the case - etc. - I had
loosened the CPU fan clamp. Apparently this or subsequent movement pulled
the CPU out of the socket. I reassembled things and wonder of wonders
everything came up:^)) Now I just need to redo the paste on the heat sink
and I think I can salvage this older technology (P4 - 3.0 GHz on an
excellent MB). Need to load a new version of AVG and SPYBOT.
Obviously when I said I had reseated everything I hadn't, I assumed the CPU
was still in the socket as it should have been - shame on me.
