I think he is asking also about modem/terminal software, as well as hardware
that acts as a sound card whichinterfaces with the TS480.
I don't see a lot of cut-and-dried answers to this question. A
USB-to-serial converter only provides you with command-and-control (CAT) for
the rig. All of the known software that demodulates digital modes has some
accessibility issues, major or minor. Let's see what KW3A has to say about
his experiences.

I would think any USB to Cereal converter should work.
I used 9 pin to 9 pin, but haven't tried the ts-480 with a newer machine.

Subject: any digital interface hardware for the TS-480?

hey everyone,
is there some hardware that can act as an interface between my TS-480 = and
my laptop? I am looking for something that can produce any of the = standard
digital modes and requires only a minimal interface (like a = terminal
window). I ask this because I am interested in getting into the = digital
side of things on HF. BTW< HRD is not one of my choices for = software to
use with this. the developers got a wild hair up their butts = and made it
pretty unusable in their paid version (at least for either = screen reader I
use on the windows laptop).
