Ron,

While I can't comment on  the  particulars of AClog,   a simple 
connection between pc and radio will let the software  grab band and 
mode data from the radio and make life a bit easier.

  A simple  USB connection, or  serial connection through a   "real" 
serial port on the pc, or  USB to serial adapter, will  bring your 
station roaring into the late 20th century.
