Howard,

you can get an adapter from Heil that plugs into the modular jack of the 
480 and comes out to a pair of pigtails:  one is 1/4 inch for foot 
switch or other ptt, and the other is 1/8 inch for microphone. 
Designed to work with the heil headsets that have 1/8 mic plugs, you can 
of course use it with any mic with a 1/8 plug.

So find a mic with a 1/8 plug, or adapt an existing mic to use with the 
480 and Elecraft.

When the cable failed on my Gold Line mic, I replaced it with a cable 
with 1/8 plug.  My headsets and desk mic now use 1/8 plugs, and all the 
radios are set up to take them, so  mic switching is pretty simple.
