That's right.  Neither organization did their job.  They opposed it when it
was called Unified Braille Code, but the same thing under a different name
they quietly supported.  Advocacy among the blindness community is virtually
nonexistent.

Well UEB is here whether we like it or not.
Members of both consumer organizations had an opportunity for input. The NFB
supported UEB. That doesn't mean that all of us agree with that choice, we
simply will have to live with it.
Symbols can only stand for one thing which might be easier for some people.
I like Grade 2 and will continue to use it for my personal reading or
writing.
